What is the mission of ISIC?
ISIC is committed to providing educational, research and training opportunities for its members and for the Indian community
Is there not an organization of Indian Cardiologists?
Indeed, there is one and a very good one AACIO, Association of American Cardiologists of Indian origin
Then, why do you need a separate organization for Indian Interventional Cardiologists?
Our careful feedback from cardiologists has demonstrated an intense desire to have a separate organization for Interventional Cardiologists of Indian origin that practice in the United States. Several reasons are cited for having the differentiated organization the subspecialty of Interventional Cardiology; its separate sponsors; its unique training; its differentiated meetings and seminars; its separate Board Certification and its world-wide affiliations
How many ISIC members are there?
It appears that about 11-14% of all PCI performed in the United States are performed by an Interventional Cardiologists of an Indian origin. Of the approximate 2,500 cardiologists of Indian origin, approximately 60% perform PCI the potential ISIC members therefore are about 1,500. More importantly, ISIC members have much higher PCI volumes than their U.S. contemporaries and they also comprise a very prolific publishing group. Of the March, 2005 abstracts presented at the Annual Scientific session of ACC at Orlando, 32% had an ISIC author!
I have never heard of ISIC! How long have you been in existence?
Do not feel isolated that you have not heard of ISIC. The organization has gone through its growing pains, not dissimilar than other not for profit organizations. But if you believe in its cause, its membership and fellowship do join today. This is the fourth year since ISIC was formed
What will it cost me?
Registering online and a handshake! Indeed, we may need funding at some stage from individual members and the General Membership will decide that
Tell me something to stir my inertia?
ISIC donated valuable stents solely for the underprivileged in India. You can attend an Interventional Board Review Course and a Mentorship program, and soon, there will be opportunities to learn Trans-septal procedures from the world-experts in India
Planning any affiliations?
Indeed, beginning with the United Kingdom and Canada and then with the Interventional Cardiologists in India
What about affiliating with other organizations?
Several potentials affiliations are presently being reviewed by the ISIC Executive Committee. These include AAPI, AACIO, SCAI, CSI, TCT and PCR. In particular, it is anticipated that ISIC will have separate chapter meetings in the future at the annual meetings of the Cardiological Society of India (CSI) and the Euro PCR
How can I help?
